PRODUCT DETAILS
What's in the Box
- Blue and white gingham check dress with attached white peasant-style top
- White apron with blue gingham trim at hem
- Matching bonnet with deep brim and under-chin ribbon ties
This Kids Victorian Prairie Girl Costume is a three-piece set that brings historical fiction to life — blue gingham dress, white apron, and ruffled bonnet ready for Book Week morning. The dress comes with a white puffed-sleeve blouse permanently attached, so it's one garment with no layering fuss.
The gingham check runs through the bodice, full skirt, and bonnet for a cohesive pioneer look. Puffed sleeves have elastic cuffs that sit just below the elbow, and the apron ties at the back waist. Back zipper on the dress makes it quick to get on. The bonnet's brim is deep enough to shade their face and the ribbon ties keep it secure.
Perfect For
Book Week & Literature Days: A natural pick for Laura Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie, colonial-era storybook characters, or any historical fiction heroine your school's reading list includes.
School History Projects & Pioneer Days: Victorian timeline presentations, frontier life reenactments, or "Olden Days" dress-up events where kids explore life before modern conveniences.
School Plays & Themed Parties: Works for Christmas nativity plays (Mary costume), historical dramas, or any Victorian-themed birthday party where the dress code is "prairie chic".
How to Wear It
Pair with white socks and closed-toe shoes in brown or burgundy — runners will break the spell. A wicker basket with flowers or a plush toy tucked under the arm adds storybook authenticity.
Parent FAQs
Q: What size should I order?
Check the size chart against your child's chest and height measurements. The bodice is fitted through the waist, so if they're between sizes we'd say size up for comfort. Returns are easy if the fit's not right.
Q: Can they wear this over regular clothes, or is it warm enough on its own?
The white top is attached to the dress, so it's two layers through the bodice. Puffed sleeves are elbow-length — fine for indoor Book Week parades, but add a white long-sleeve under-tee if it's a cold morning or outdoor event.
Q: Does the skirt have enough volume, or do we need a petticoat underneath?
The skirt is full with multiple gingham panels, but it sits flat without a petticoat. If you want the classic pioneer "poof", a white tulle petticoat underneath will give it that storybook shape — sold separately.
Q: Is this suitable for a nativity play or Christmas concert?
Absolutely. The blue gingham and white apron work beautifully for Mary in a nativity scene, or any humble village girl role in a Christmas production. The bonnet can be removed if the play needs a simpler headpiece.
Care: Hand wash gingham dress and bonnet in cold water, hang to dry. Iron on low if needed.
